Marketing leaders are hyper-focused on customer acquisition and growth right now. It is paramount that they zero-in on customers as fast and efficiently as possible. And, they are required to do all this with shrinking budgets and shorter timelines to hit targets.
In order to achieve success with customer acquisition and growth, company and marketing leaders also need to be laser-focused on talent and resources they can use to get it done. In doing so, they are considering every resource very carefully – spreading the work across full time, fractional, and outsourced resources.
A number of full time roles remain critical in the mix – CMOs and other executive leadership, product marketers, content, customer acquisition, marketing analytics, brand and digital/AI strategists are key.
When leaders make the decision to hire, there is no room for error. Hiring an “almost” fit or missing the mark altogether can cost too much and devastate budgets. So, what is required to ensure success?
A clearly outlined strategy that has been agreed upon by all relevant stakeholders. This is critical and failure to agree – in advance of starting a search – will cost months of delays.
A clear and compelling job description that aligns with all goals laid out in the strategy. Make sure the hiring manager and all relevant parties sign off and agree about what skills are required and what responsibilities are covered.
A defined process and methodology for targeting candidates that remains faithful to the strategy and job description while moving quickly to identify and screen candidates
A team of evaluating stakeholders who are well-briefed on the strategy, represent the role and company consistently. All participants must be flexible. dedicate ample time to the process and provide clear feedback.
Abiity to adjust to the market quickly during the search based on shifts in compensation, skill-set mix requirements and geo-targeting.
Having a streamlined process that pinpoints relevant candidates quickly and manages them carefully all the way through to on-boarding is complex. It also requires experience and dedicated expertise.
